In the aftermath of the Challenger accident, the 51-L crew's families came together, still grieving from loss, but firmly committed to the belief that they must carry on the spirit of their loved ones by continuing the Challenger crew's educational mission. Through the hard work of community leaders, business officials, educators, cities and school districts, the Challenger Learning Center of the Rio Grande Valley opened its’ doors on February 14, 2000. Since then, the CLC-RGV has serviced thousands of students from Port Isabel, TX to as far away as Laredo, TX.
